Our History

CSCE was founded in 2015 by concerned residents of Park Hill and surrounding neighborhoods. These individuals saw the need to address some of the socioeconomic issues facing themselves and their neighbors. Some of the needs that were identified include but not limited to: Safe haven for children of all ages to fall back on, such as a vibrant youth program that will provide alternative for the streets. Educational and vocational opportunities for residents that are on the lower ends of the economic spectrum, so as to help them move up the social economic ladder; access to social safety net programs such as child care, nutritional assistance, housing assistance; access to comprehensive healthcare and many more.

Sports Component

The sports component of our program comprises of a soccer teams for boys and girls, ages 5 to 12. The teams are broken into under-eight, under-ten, and under-twelve. The coaches meet with the players at least two times per week for training and games. Our soccer program is both educational and serves as a medium to provide mentorship to the young boys and girls that love the game. It enables us to bring them together for a purpose. Through soccer, we teach them how to work as a team; participants learn the value of discipline, hard work, and leadership abilities. Without soccer, we wouldn’t have the ears of the children we work with.

Performance Art Component

Our dance team meets coaches and program coordinators at least twice per week and three times per week during the summer. Dancing provides a platform for the girls to learn how to establish positive relationships with their peers, learn team work, discipline, and gain social exposure.

Art Component

Our program takes art as important part of its quest to foster the cognitive development of children growing up in the community we serve. We provide arts workshops throw-out the year. We invite groups to host visual art workshops with the children (painting, sculpting, clay making, etc). We take trips to libraries around the city to participate in art activities on their curriculum for children.

As part of our curriculum, we provide educational workshop such as healthy lifestyle, financial literacy, technology and science. We also invite host of different motivational speakers such as famous artists and athletes to speak at our community meetings on Saturdays.

Throughout the year, we have access to the space free of charge at IS 49 middle school located at 101 Warren Street, Staten Island New York 10304. This space is made possible through our partner, the Beacon Program of JCC. The youth program is growing every day. All we have to do is continue to build capacity so as to be able to serve the youth effectively
